| Grants made 2005-06 During 2005-6 the CIT made 13 grants for a total of £51,281 and some of these included: Christians In Politics www.christiansinpolitics.org.uk This cross political party project seeks to get Christians of all political persuasions off the couch and active in politics at a local and wider lever. A grant of £3,000 was made towards the costs of developing information packs and piloting this work with a number of London church communities. Broom Street Children's Project (- with HIV/AIDS and other economic challenges, many African countries are experiencing high numbers of orphaned children or a move from rural farming to urban centres. Amongst the younger population there are growing numbers of street children. A grant for £3,500 will support this organisation undertaking some action research in Ghana to understand 'streetism' and will use the findings to educate rural communities that the streets of cities/urban areas are not paved with gold. Restoring Broken Walls Trust When people leave prison they often have limited opportunity and can lack structure in their days. This Christian organisation seeks to provide opportunity, learning and structure by working with ex-offenders to grow organic vegetables and to create sales for the future sustainability of the project. The £10,000 grant from CIT will help recruit a horticulturist and contribute towards the running of the project. ACCEPT people with mental ill-health often experience severe isolation and loss of confidence. This exciting faith-based organisation helps to bring people together for social interaction which helps support their medical situation. They meet in the places we all meet in: pubs, cafes etc and not hospitals. A grant of £8, 581 will contribute towards the expansion of ACCEPT's work from Warwickshire into Leicestershire. |
